What lens would be his favorite (most likely the 85mm), and what editing software would he feel would best enhance his portraits? Kim's sessions invite you to explore this fascinating concept. You'll delve into the art of creating drama, playing with shadows, and embracing light in a way that only Rembrandt could inspire. Through hands-on sessions, Kim will guide you through using specific lenses, camera settings, and posing techniques, all while focusing on the magic of one light source. She will also show you how to take ordinary items (clothing, accessories, props) and incorporate them to tell the story. Get ready to bring your camera and a lens in the 50-100mm range for an immersive learning experience!

PPA offers four degree programs for photographers who want to take their education to the next level.  We will cover how merits are earned and the value they add to one’s skill set. Exploring the fundamental guidelines of Merit Image Review, with a focus on the twelve key elements of merited images will help us see what makes a merit worthy image.

Participants will analyze examples of merited images and discuss how presentation can enhance their impact. Additionally, we will compare the judging process for state competitions with MIR judging, highlighting key differences and insights. We will also discuss strategies for strengthening competition entries, from technical execution to storytelling elements. By the end of the session, attendees will have a clearer understanding of the degree process and how to create images that meet professional standards and achieve recognition.

MDPPA is part of the Community Network of Professional Photographers of America (PPA).  We are a separate membership organization, yet we are mutually beneficial.

There are many benefits to being a member of both MDPPA and PPA. Some of our programs offer Continuing Education Merits for PPA member attendees, and PPA Member Speakers for our programs are eligible to receive speaker merits from PPA. Our image competition program is in association with PPA guidelines. Many MDPPA members are also PPA members and will be happy to answer your questions about either organization. Our PPA Councilors for the state of Maryland, Steve Clark, James Corbett, and George Singleton, would also be happy to talk with you. They can be reached through our membership directory.

You will find that MDPPA offers a wonderful community of colleagues, who share camaraderie, collaboration, ideas and resources, education and experience. We look forward to welcoming you with our hospitality!
