Carl Caylor, M.Photog.,Cr., CPP, F-WPPA: "Before, After, and How to Get There"

This program will take you on a Natural Light and OCF Journey from the open scene you walk up to…all the way to a finished portrait.  Carl will go through his thought process of why he chose the location. He will show how to use existing design elements.  He will show usable light within the area and how to pose within that light.  He will share how his thoughts for the finished print evolve from vision to reality with darkroom techniques that anyone can master.

Carl’s goal is to open our mind to the thought process that goes on when creating an image for both PPA print competition and for your client.  He will discuss light, posing within the light, color harmony, composition, and more of the 12 elements of an artistic image in terms of client work and PPA Print Competition.

When you leave this program, you will find new backgrounds in places you would normally walk by. You will see usable light, depth and dimensions like never before. You will understand when and how to work without strobes.  You will know how to create emotion in your work and how to use psychology to your advantage. Yes. It is a lot to take in, but you can’t help but learn with the real stories, straight forward explanations and demonstrations of each and every detail.

An update on the program: Bring your camera if you would like to participate in the morning model session, and your laptop to select your images to give Carl via USB for review.

Schedule:

1. Opening Presentation

2. Demonstration with Models

3. Participant opportunity to work in small groups with models, then at lunch break each participant may submit one image to Carl via USB.

4. Lunch Break

5. After lunch, Carl will project images from the model session and discuss them, then move into discussion on digital darkroom and image preparation.

We hope you will also join us for our second event of the day in the evening with AJ's Facial Analysis program!  Free to members and included in the guest registration of Carl's day program!

Speaker Bio

Carl Caylor, M.Photog., Cr., CPP, F-WPPA, Kodak-Alaris Mentor

"If beauty was only skin-deep, every photograph would reveal the same personality.  We create portraits.  An artistic expression that goes past the outer layer, beyond first impressions, and into the abyss of one's defining essence."     - Carl Caylor

Carl is a Kodak Mentor and has been involved with photography for over 25 years. He started his photographic career in the darkroom as a custom printer and technician.  He is PPA Certified, a Master Photographer, a Craftsman with Professional Photographers of America and an International Judge.  He has won numerous national awards for his photography, including 18 PPA Loan Collections and several Kodak Gallery and Fuji Masterpiece Awards.

Carl is one of the most sought after instructors in the country because of his "Hands-On" coaching approach.  Don't plan on just watching in this class... Carl will challenge you to become a better photographer than you already are.  His photographic skills are just part of what will help each student.  His greatest strength is his ability to see what skills others already posses and then find ways to help enhance those skills to a new level.

Carl Prides himself on giving a program that contains useful information rather than just a "show and tell" session.  You will be inspired. You will be reminded of things you already know.  Most importantly, you will learn new, useful ideas that will make you a better artist and a more salable photographer.
