Carl Caylor, M.Photog.,Cr., CPP, F-WPPA: "Before, After, and How to Get There"

This program will take you on a Natural Light and OCF Journey from the open scene you walk up to…all the way to a finished portrait.  Carl will go through his thought process of why he chose the location. He will show how to use existing design elements.  He will show usable light within the area and how to pose within that light.  He will share how his thoughts for the finished print evolve from vision to reality with darkroom techniques that anyone can master.

Carl’s goal is to open our mind to the thought process that goes on when creating an image for both PPA print competition and for your client.  He will discuss light, posing within the light, color harmony, composition, and more of the 12 elements of an artistic image in terms of client work and PPA Print Competition.

When you leave this program, you will find new backgrounds in places you would normally walk by. You will see usable light, depth and dimensions like never before. You will understand when and how to work without strobes.  You will know how to create emotion in your work and how to use psychology to your advantage. Yes. It is a lot to take in, but you can’t help but learn with the real stories, straight forward explanations and demonstrations of each and every detail.

    Speaker Bio

Carl Caylor, M.Photog., Cr., CPP, F-WPPA, Kodak-Alaris Mentor

"If beauty was only skin-deep, every photograph would reveal the same personality.  We create portraits.  An artistic expression that goes past the outer layer, beyond first impressions, and into the abyss of one's defining essence."     - Carl Caylor

Carl is a Kodak Mentor and has been involved with photography for over 25 years. He started his photographic career in the darkroom as a custom printer and technician.  He is PPA Certified, a Master Photographer, a Craftsman with Professional Photographers of America and an International Judge.  He has won numerous national awards for his photography, including 18 PPA Loan Collections and several Kodak Gallery and Fuji Masterpiece Awards.

Carl is one of the most sought after instructors in the country because of his "Hands-On" coaching approach.  Don't plan on just watching in this class... Carl will challenge you to become a better photographer than you already are.  His photographic skills are just part of what will help each student.  His greatest strength is his ability to see what skills others already posses and then find ways to help enhance those skills to a new level.

Carl Prides himself on giving a program that contains useful information rather than just a "show and tell" session.  You will be inspired. You will be reminded of things you already know.  Most importantly, you will learn new, useful ideas that will make you a better artist and a more salable photographer.

    Bios

The owner of Bruce F. Press Photography for almost a decade, Bruce F Press, CPP has been involved in photography his whole life. He first learned that creative opportunities don't end in the camera at his father's elbow in the darkroom. Through the years he has set fire to plastic models, got too close to sharks and splattered $4000 worth of equipment on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on his photographic journey. Today, he continues to expand his understanding and expression every day for clients and himself.

Kenny Epps, CPP graduated from the Washington School of Photography and currently has a studio in Owings Mills, Maryland.  Kenny has always been interested in the field of Photography since his earlier studies at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore College.

In 2005 while sitting in his home church service, Kenny received a spiritual awakening and a call to get involved in world missionary work. Within 60 days of that call to missionary work, Kenny found himself serving on a team of 19 halfway around the world on the shores Indonesia helping the Tsunami victims.  From this first step of faith, Kenny has been on over 19 missionary trips all over the world.  He has worked and captured images in countries such as El Salvador, Kiva, Hatti, Cuba, Costa Rica, Bulgaria, Honduras, and more. His most recent trip this past September took him to the providence of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Africa.

Along with photographing Internationally, Kenny specializes in church and event photography.  He is currently the lead photographer at Trinity Life Church in Lutherville, Md which serves a congregation of about 3000. Kenny is their go to photographer for all of their most important event including street photography.  Kenny says that his purpose of photography is to use God’s eyes to show us the plight and joy of mankind.
